ENDER MAGNOLIA: Bloom in the Mist

A dark-fantasy metroidvania sequel to the beloved Ender Lilies, trading a slower Early Access build for a widely admired 1.0 release — gorgeous, meticulously quality-of-life-focused, and Overwhelmingly Positive across nearly 17,000 reviews, with its most thoughtful critics agreeing on exactly one thing: it's a better game than its predecessor and, for some, a lesser story.

Grim Dawn

A decade-old action RPG that just got a real tenth mastery and a third of a new map, proving Crate Entertainment still has more to say — even if the engine underneath it never stopped being from 2016.

Guild Wars 2

No subscription, no level-cap treadmill and, fourteen years on, still no level 81 — Guild Wars 2's horizontal progression is either the smartest bet the MMO genre ever made or a slow-burn excuse for six expansions of buy-in. Reviewed with Visions of Eternity live.

Hades II

Supergiant's first-ever sequel splits its roguelite loop into two directions instead of one, hands Melinoë a mana bar to manage on top of her dash, and asks you to keep three separate meta-progression tracks fed at once — an ambitious redesign that mostly earns its scope. It also shipped a 1.0 ending that triggered a real backlash, one Supergiant is still visibly patching a response to nine months later.

Hermit and Pig

An Earthbound-flavoured turn-based RPG about a socially anxious old man, his truffle-pig best friend, and a corporate conspiracy involving giant mushrooms — built around a genuinely novel idea where awkward conversations function as real combat encounters, and near-unanimously loved by the players who've played it.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Warhorse Studios' medieval simulation grows up without losing its stubbornness — a sequel that fixes the first game's roughest edges while doubling down on the idea that realism should cost you something. The result is one of the most complete RPGs of the last few years, provided you're willing to let a swordfight or a bowl of stew go badly.

Melvor Idle

A RuneScape skilling menu stripped of everything else and rebuilt as a proper idle RPG — twenty-nine interlocking skills, a free version that isn't a trial, and three expansions that never once ask for a subscription.

Monster Hunter: World

Capcom's breakout entry turned a niche Japanese series into a global phenomenon by making its hardest lesson — learn the monster, not the menu — finally worth teaching. Eight years on, the hunt loop still holds up better than almost anything that copied it, even if the gear ladder's endgame RNG and a genuinely obtuse multiplayer system haven't gone anywhere.

NGU Idle

A free browser idler that grew into one of Steam's most respected incrementals by refusing to explain itself, stacking rebirth systems on rebirth systems until a wiki tab stops being optional and starts being furniture.

NieR:Automata

A genuine landmark action RPG whose Steam version spent four years as a warning label of its own — a beloved, philosophically ambitious game shipped in a technically broken PC port that Square Enix quietly fixed on a different storefront first.

Old School RuneScape

A 2007 client kept alive by its players since 2013 — every update to Old School RuneScape has to survive a supermajority vote, and that single rule shapes everything else about how the game feels seventeen years on.

Path of Exile

Grinding Gear Games' original 2013 action RPG is still running, still free, and still adding a full seasonal league every few months — a genre-defining build sandbox that never bothered making itself easy to learn, now sharing a studio and a wallet with its own sequel.

Sea of Stars

Sabotage Studio's turn-based RPG borrows Chrono Trigger's parts openly and reassembles them well — timed hits, a lock-breaking combat layer and a day/night mechanic that actually changes puzzles — but the writing never catches up to the systems around it.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3

The trilogy-closing entry that fuses the worlds of the first two Xenoblade games into one shared battlefield, built around Chain Attacks and a class system deep enough to hold up across an eighty-hour campaign — with a story some major outlets still found predictable.

A Dark Room

A minimalist text-based incremental that spends its first act pretending to be nothing at all, then quietly reveals it was building a survival story out of firewood, huts and silence the whole time.

Beastro

Timberline Studio's cozy chef sim ties its farming-and-cooking loop directly into a trick-taking deckbuilder — a review of whether feeding your adventurers is a real tactical decision or just a chore standing between you and the next card fight.

Cassette Beasts

An open-world monster-taming RPG whose fusion system — combining any two monster forms into a unique creature with its own hand-drawn sprite — has become its signature achievement, built by a two-person team and beloved for exactly that kind of ambition.

Chained Echoes

A 16-bit-style JRPG built almost entirely by one developer over seven years, whose real achievement isn't the pixel art but a heat-gauge combat system that replaces MP attrition with active turn-by-turn risk management.
