Grim Dawn

A decade-old action RPG that just got a real tenth mastery and a third of a new map, proving Crate Entertainment still has more to say — even if the engine underneath it never stopped being from 2016.

Hades II

Supergiant's first-ever sequel splits its roguelite loop into two directions instead of one, hands Melinoë a mana bar to manage on top of her dash, and asks you to keep three separate meta-progression tracks fed at once — an ambitious redesign that mostly earns its scope. It also shipped a 1.0 ending that triggered a real backlash, one Supergiant is still visibly patching a response to nine months later.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Warhorse Studios' medieval simulation grows up without losing its stubbornness — a sequel that fixes the first game's roughest edges while doubling down on the idea that realism should cost you something. The result is one of the most complete RPGs of the last few years, provided you're willing to let a swordfight or a bowl of stew go badly.

Monster Hunter: World

Capcom's breakout entry turned a niche Japanese series into a global phenomenon by making its hardest lesson — learn the monster, not the menu — finally worth teaching. Eight years on, the hunt loop still holds up better than almost anything that copied it, even if the gear ladder's endgame RNG and a genuinely obtuse multiplayer system haven't gone anywhere.

NieR:Automata

A genuine landmark action RPG whose Steam version spent four years as a warning label of its own — a beloved, philosophically ambitious game shipped in a technically broken PC port that Square Enix quietly fixed on a different storefront first.

Path of Exile

Grinding Gear Games' original 2013 action RPG is still running, still free, and still adding a full seasonal league every few months — a genre-defining build sandbox that never bothered making itself easy to learn, now sharing a studio and a wallet with its own sequel.

Rabbit and Steel

MMO raid mechanics compressed into a 40-minute co-op roguelike, 97.9% positive with a perfect recent record — and a colour-clarity problem that kills players through no fault of their own.

Resident Evil 4

A masterfully modernized remake of one of gaming's most influential horror games — briefly and seriously undermined in early 2026 by a new anti-piracy DRM that tanked performance on an already three-year-old game, until Capcom reversed it within a month.

Truxton Extreme

A modern 3D reimagining of Toaplan's 1988 arcade shmup Truxton, made by the original studio with the original director returning — and received with a depth of emotion this genre rarely gets from reviewers who never expected to see this series again.

TUNIC

A game about a small fox that hands you an instruction manual in a language you can't read and lets that single idea carry an entire adventure — and a soulslike hiding inside a Zelda costume, which is where most of its arguments start.

Turnip Mountain

A physics-based climbing platformer built around controlling each arm independently with two mice or two analogue sticks — a genuinely novel mechanic, a soundtrack that draws unusually specific praise, and a reception so consistently glowing this review had to look hard to find the real complaints underneath it.

Ascend to ZERO

Flyway Games turns a thirty-second countdown into a health bar, a currency and a weapon at once — a review of how far the time-freeze mechanic carries a roguelite built entirely around never letting the clock feel like punishment, and where cluttered onboarding and a softening difficulty curve hold it back.

BALL x PIT

A brick-breaker, base-builder and roguelite mashed together into something genuinely novel — and, by a large and coherent share of its own fans, something that runs out of ideas within its first ten hours and never quite finds a reason to justify the dozens more it invites.

DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS

A genuine, widely-acclaimed reinvention of KOEI TECMO's long-running hack-and-slash series — praised by veteran fans as the best entry in over a decade for its overhauled combat — built around a deliberate, controversial trade-off that a large share of the same fanbase argues cost the series something real: a single silent protagonist replacing the roster of dozens of playable historical officers, and a story that stops at the Battle of Chibi, leaving half the classic Three Kingdoms tale untold at launch.

Genshin Impact

The free open world is good enough to carry a full-price game on its own — climbing, gliding and elemental combat form one of the best traversal systems in the genre. What you pay for is everything above the story campaign, and the review is really about where that line sits.

Gothic 1 Remake

A faithful, expanded rebuild of one of open-world RPG history's most influential games — the 2001 original that reviewers credit as a direct forerunner to The Witcher — that returned to the Colony to Very Positive reception and 500,000 copies sold, undercut at launch by genuine, severe bugs and softlocks that the developer has since addressed through a rapid, transparent patch cadence.

Grounded

Obsidian shrinks you to the size of an ant and lets that single premise reshape exploration, combat and crafting all at once. Nearly four years after 1.0, the backyard is still one of the smartest survival maps in the genre — even as Obsidian's attention has visibly moved on to the sequel.
