Garlic Builder

A relaxing pixel-art building game about fulfilling customer blueprint orders as a young garlic apprentice, praised as a "hidden gem" comparable to Coloring Pixels for players who enjoy Minecraft-style creative pixel art, with real complaints about window sizing bugs and how little the core loop actually asks of the player.

Graveyard Keeper

A medieval cemetery sim with a tech tree the size of a small factory game and a sense of humour about corpse disposal. Also the only game I've reviewed where a player says they finished it out of hatred — and where the community's fix is a mod list that removes the walking.

HARVESTELLA

Square Enix marketed this as a life-sim farming game and its own review corpus -- praise and criticism alike -- spent four years correcting the record. It's a JRPG with farming on the side, and knowing that before buying changes almost everything about how the game lands.

House Flipper

The comfort-game renovation sim that made cleaning and decorating genuinely satisfying — weighed down by a progress-erasing bug reviewers have reported for years and a sprawling paid DLC ecosystem that locks most of the game's achievements behind it.

Idle Fishing

A free-to-play boat-and-crew idler with 1,215 Steam achievements and a genuinely active two-year patch history, undercut by a store-page AI Generated Content Disclosure and a bolt-on excavation system that its own achievement data shows almost nobody finishes.

Isekai x Isekai

A cosy, low-stakes idle character collector about watching an ever-growing cast of fantasy companions generate Hearts to pull for rarer variants -- a small, well-liked release with a real localisation gap (some dialogue is Chinese-only) and, unusually for the genre, no progress while the game itself is closed.

Island Beekeeper

Raise bees on floating islands, crossbreed them for traits, and rebuild a supply of honey for a dying Earth. A lovely, meditative idea shipped without an Early Access label straight into a week of blocking bugs — and patched fast enough that its Steam rating has been climbing ever since.

Joyquarium

A big-number aquarium idler that genuinely earns its Idler tag — fry-pack gacha, a quadrillion-scale currency and a decoration economy with real payoffs — but its own audience keeps calling it a Chillquarium copy, and the saltwater half has sat unfinished since mid-2025.

Leaf it Alone

A solo developer's yard-cleanup incremental turns raking leaves into a genuine tool-upgrade power fantasy — reviewed for whether a two-hour runtime and a single backyard are worth the Overwhelmingly Positive reputation, or just too little game for the price of admission.

Milo's Tiny Fish Pond

A desktop-overlay idle aquarium that genuinely earns its Idler tag and out-designs its rivals on tank capacity and how literally it sits on your desktop, but a fifteen-month-old review corpus this thin, two serious memory-leak reports and thirteen months of developer silence keep it from matching the library's better-supported pond games.

Mirthwood

A medieval-fantasy blend of Stardew Valley farming and open-world RPG adventuring, built by a two-person team, whose beautiful art and genuine ambition were badly let down by a "1.0" launch that its own most-upvoted reviews say played like early access — since substantially redeemed by almost two years of continuous free updates.

Palia

A free-to-play cozy MMO that survived its own studio nearly collapsing under it — Singularity 6 laid off around 40% of its staff across 2023 and 2024 before Daybreak Game Company bought the studio outright, and the game that emerged is still being patched roughly every three to four weeks in 2026. What it hasn't fixed is a monetisation model that increasingly charges real money to actually use rewards you already earned by playing.

PatriotMemoirs

A live-action interactive drama about a double-agent infiltrating a collaborationist spy agency in Japanese-occupied Shanghai in 1939, built on genuine branching and a day-cycle resource system, undercut by a narrative its own dedicated audience says leans far harder into romance than the espionage thriller it was sold as.

PegIdle

A pachinko-flavoured idle game that nails its dopamine-hit opening hours before settling into flat, number-only late-game pacing, and whose most-upvoted complaint is a save system that could erase everything on a crash.

Rancher: A New Life

A first-person ranch sim that spent a year in public demos before its Early Access launch, and it shows — the "done" list is unusually long for a day-one build. What isn't done yet is co-op, and the recommended specs ask for more GPU than a cozy farm game should need.

Rune Factory 5

The farming-RPG series' first fully 3D entry, loved by a devoted fanbase logging hundreds of hours -- while a wide, well-documented share of reviewers, including many of its own biggest fans, argue the jump to 3D cost the series more than it gained.

The Darkened Northern Lights

A solo Finnish developer's family-friendly storybook RPG released on Steam yesterday — gentle turn-based dice combat, gnomes and fire foxes to free, a garden to tend, and a documented ascension from folk tale to playable systems — reviewed on launch-day evidence, with an achievement spread that resolves to roughly three reporting accounts.

The Iron and the Oath

A choice-driven interactive fiction RPG told entirely through the pages of a turning book, following Karl von Aiden across five chapters, three routes and six ways to die — from a Chinese solo-scale studio, with AI-assisted CG art and full dual-language narration, and so far a launch nobody has reviewed.

The Quarry

A star-studded branching horror anthology from the Until Dawn team that splits its own reviewers on story quality and delivers far less mechanical agency than its "your choices matter" framing implies, launched alongside a broken multiplayer promise and now caught up in the same 2K Terms of Service controversy documented independently on the publisher's other 2022 release.

The Sims 4

The base game is free and the creative tools are still the best in the genre. The full catalogue — all 113 add-ons — costs about NZ$1,580, and almost every negative review this game has ever received is about that number.

Agrivore: Incremental Farming

A survivors-style auto-harvester where you point a magic weapon at crops instead of monsters, built around a skill tree and prestige loop that a majority of players clear in a single sitting — and whose own achievement data backs up the negative reviews' loudest complaint, that one starting crop breaks the balance for everyone else.
