Glitchcon

A Galcon-style real-time territory game built for js13k 2016 — drag a fleet from one planet to another to invade it, watch the glitch aesthetic do its thing, and try to conquer the map. The touch controls genuinely work; nothing in the game ever tells you that.

Path of Idling

A one-developer idle RPG that hides a genuinely dense passive-perk tree and a town worth automating behind a rough Android build that still crashes for some players seven years after its first prototype.

Smolpxl Heli

A very simple tap-to-drop-water timing toy — confirmed genuinely functional on touch and keyboard, but shallower than its stablemates and, contrary to what we expected going in, still hit by the same "undefined" text bug found across this small games family.

Terror Defense

A js13k 2022 "non-violent tower defense" — plant tombstones and dead trees to scare passersby out of your graveyard — well-liked by competition judges on desktop, but sunk for this shelf's purposes by a severe, directly confirmed viewport bug that leaves the game's core scoring readout physically off-screen on a phone with no way to reach it.

Blast

A tidy little planet-defense shooter whose tap-to-fire mechanic genuinely works via touch — confirmed directly — but whose fixed 900-pixel-wide layout pushes the Start button, score display, and the player's own ship entirely off a real phone screen with no way back.

Hero Wars: Dominion Era

The browser half of the Hero Wars split — the same hero collector as the mobile app, but with more systems, an older audience, and a payment rail that hands nothing to Apple or Google. It is the most transparently commercial version of one of the most commercial games in the genre, and it is also, on the merits, the better-built one.

Torch

A charming, tiny 64x64 Bitsy game built around a dynamic torch-light mechanic for LOWREZJAM 2018 - keyboard movement works correctly, but the game's own touch-swipe movement path is genuinely broken in the exported build, confirmed by direct player-position checks across every direction rather than assumed from a screenshot.

Meow or Never

A polished-looking pass-and-play card game for js13k 2025 whose core tap-to-play mechanic was confirmed working directly, undermined by a hard requirement for extra human players, an unprompted forced-fullscreen jump, and a harsh full-screen red flash on any mistap.

RPS

A 13KB js13k-warmup arcade game built for a weekly itch.io jam — dodge falling rock/paper/scissors icons by sliding a shape left and right, with controls that genuinely do work well on a phone but a scoring and feedback loop too thin to hold attention past one round.

Jumpman

A single-level Super Mario Bros. homage built on the LittleJS engine — run, jump, stomp enemies and reach the castle flag — undercut by a touch jump button that does not work.

Matter Dimensions

A free, long-abandoned browser incremental that bakes the escalating "nerf gauntlet" of hardcore Antimatter Dimensions mods directly into its base game — a genuinely distinct idea, shipped by one hobbyist developer, that stopped receiving content five years before this review.

Sort the Court!

A beloved, critically adored kingdom-management decree game — genuinely charming, by all evidence a great little game — that simply does not respond to touch at all on the only build this shelf has any right to host, because the developer's actual touch-ready version is under an exclusive commercial licence with Poki.

Runekeeper

A js13k 2023 dungeon crawler where every move and spell is cast by freehand-drawing one of six symbols, classified by a tiny neural network shipped inside the 13KB build itself — a genuinely inventive mechanic that works cleanly with a mouse but could not be made to register a single gesture under real mobile-browser touch emulation in extensive testing.

css-sweeper

A complete, no-JavaScript Minesweeper built as a deliberate "stress test" for a CSS boolean-logic trick called Space Toggle — genuinely inventive engineering, measured directly against a hard number that matters more than the engineering does here: the only board on offer is Minesweeper's 30x16 Expert grid, which comes out to roughly 12.5 CSS pixels per cell on a phone screen.

HTML5 Asteroids

Doug McInnes's 2010 canvas rewrite of Atari's vector shooter is a faithful, functional clone that plays cleanly with a keyboard and does not work at all on a touchscreen — the on-screen buttons only appear for browsers whose user agent literally contains the string "iPad," which excludes Android, iPhone, and most real iPads today.

Coup Ahoo

A 13-kilobyte pirate roguelike that layers a real press-your-luck dice game and a three-role crew system onto a single-button combat loop — and then fails the one test this shelf exists to run, because the page never tells a phone's browser how big it actually is.

Norman the Necromancer

A js13k 2022 runner-up with a genuinely well-built touch aim-and-cast loop for lobbing spells at approaching villagers, undercut by a hard, source-confirmed block — the ritual/upgrade screen that gates every level transition responds only to arrow keys and Enter, with no touch or mouse-click path at all, leaving a phone player stuck the moment the first wave is cleared.

Alquerque

A handsome medieval-themed adaptation of the ancient board game for js13k 2023, whose board could never be interacted with in any mode during testing — not a touch-specific failure, but a total absence of any selectable piece, which matches a rendering bug the author himself has repeatedly acknowledged.
