Wanderer's travel modes and world interface

How Wanderer Works

One page, every system: how movement, combat, skills, gear, crafting and offline time fit together into a game you can play for five minutes or five hours.

The road is the game

Wanderer has no level-select, no zones behind loading screens, no fast-travel you didn't earn. The world is one continuous east–west corridor — the Long Road — and your position on it is your progress. Monsters get stronger with distance; regions change art, wildlife and mood as you cross their borders; your furthest-east point is tracked as a record. Everything else in the game exists to move that record eastward: better gear lets you survive further; skills unlock better gear; towns give you safe ground to bank the gains.

Movement modes

You steer your wanderer by picking a travel mode — a standing order they follow until you change it:

ModeWhat your wanderer does
ExplorePresses east into new, tougher lands.
HuntSeeks out and attacks nearby monsters.
RestStops and recovers health.
ReturnHeads west, back toward Wanderer's Rest.
WoodcuttingMoves to the nearest tree and cuts logs.
MineYou pick an ore; they find it and mine it.
SmithingYou pick a recipe; they walk to a forge and make it, over and over.
ManualTap to walk; tap a foe to attack. Full control.

The same list (minus manual) doubles as your offline mode — what your wanderer does while you're away. Your online and offline choices are remembered separately, so an online iron-mining session never overwrites your offline copper order.

Combat

Fights start when a monster finds you (or you find it, in Hunt or Manual). The exchange resolves automatically: your Attack governs hitting, Strength governs damage, Defence governs not being hit, and your gear adds accuracy, power, evasion and health on top. Win: XP, coins, and a chance at a gear drop near the monster's level. Lose: you wake at the nearest unlocked town, gear intact, dignity negotiable. A combat focus setting decides whether fight XP spreads across all three stats or trains one.

Skills

Six skills, all levelled by doing: Attack, Strength and Defence in combat; Mining, Woodcutting and Smithing in the field and at the forge. Skills run to level 500 on a curve that starts quick and earns its late game. Higher gathering levels unlock richer ore and quicker success; higher Smithing unlocks the full recipe ladder up to Celestial and Legendary work.

Equipment

Six combat slots, a cosmetic hat slot, and two tool slots for your pickaxe and axe. The gear ladder runs 26 tiers (requirement levels 1–250); each piece also has a quality grade — Standard, Refined, Rare, Epic, Relic — that scales its stats. Two systems keep loot generous without being wasteful: soft equip lets you wear above-level gear at reduced effectiveness that ramps up as you level, and set bonuses reward wearing three or more pieces of one tier. Drops always land within a few tiers of the monster that dropped them, so loot stays relevant all the way east.

Gathering & crafting

The production chain is honest work, end to end: swing a pickaxe at a rock field (Mining), smelt the ore into bars at a town furnace, hammer bars into gear at the anvil (Smithing), and — with three identical pieces — gamble at the tempering bench for the next quality grade. Twelve ores span the corridor from copper outside the first town to celestial rock in the far east; every region page in the Atlas lists what's minable there. Smithing XP is weighted by the real ore behind each recipe, so ambitious pieces pay ambitiously.

Towns, houses & safety

Twenty-eight settlements are the road's rhythm: safe ground where monsters can't follow, with stores to sell loot, blacksmiths for the whole crafting loop, and locals with something to say. Defeat sends you to the nearest one you've unlocked — so every new town discovered is also a better respawn. Earn enough and you can claim a roadside lot and raise a house stage by stage, with storage of your own inside.

Offline: the same game, unattended

When you're away, the server replays your chosen mode with the live rules — the same combat engine, the same XP tables, drops at a reduced rate. One hour is free; up to twelve can be unlocked with earned coins; rewarded ads can bank more. The return summary shows the distance walked, fights won and lost, loot kept, and anything notable found. Nothing about being away is punished: no decay, no streaks, no expiry.

The parts reinforce each other

That's the loop: explore to find harder monsters and richer rock; fight and mine to fund the forge; forge to survive further exploration. Any one of the three can lead on a given evening — and any one of the three can run while you sleep.
