A one-developer game still takes a village.

Made by

Killerworm — design, code, world-building, art direction, operations, and an unreasonable number of hand-placed fence posts. Wanderer is an independent game with no studio or publisher behind it; how it's built is described on the development page.

The testers

The closed-testing crew walked the road when it was half its length and twice as broken, filed the bug reports that mattered, and argued the balance into shape. Testers carry the Unicorn Horn in-game — a permanently protected keepsake with a +5% equipment drop bonus — as thanks. If you see a horn on the road, that player helped build it.

The players

Half of the changelog traces back to a chat message that started with "would it be possible to…". Special mention to the leaderboard front-runners, whose appetite for the far east keeps the difficulty honest.

Technology

  • Phaser — the HTML5 game framework the client renders with.
  • Node.js, Express & Socket.IO — the server and its live connections.
  • MariaDB — every wanderer's memory.
  • Capacitor — the Android wrapper.
  • Modern AI tooling assists development, as described here; every shipped change is human-reviewed and played first.

Fonts & sundry

The game's pixel art, world and names are original to the project. The website uses system fonts and no third-party scripts — what you load here is what you see.
