Testing confirmed real, functional driving on both platforms. On desktop, holding an arrow key accelerates and turns the car with visible, responsive steering, and Space applies a handbrake drift. On phone, a virtual analog stick (revealed on touch) handles steering and throttle together - dragging it forward and to the side was confirmed, via real dispatched touch input, to move the car from a dead stop at the start line up to 1st place and into lap 2. However, reading the actual input-handling code directly showed that the drift/handbrake action checks a gamepad button index that the touch layout's two virtual buttons never expose - phone players get full drive-and-steer, but no way to drift.
