Wanderer's Rest

A warm green basin and the traveller’s home. The road runs east from here.

Recommended level: roughly 1–6. Monster strength in Wanderer rises steadily with distance east, so the west edge of a region is always gentler than its east edge.

The region

This is home. Every wanderer wakes for the first time in the meadows around the Rest, and every death, however far east it happens, eventually points back here. The town has everything a new arrival needs — a store, Gregor's smithy, quiet fields of copper and tin just west of the walls — and nothing that can hurt you inside the safe ring. Spend your first session here learning the movement modes, mine your first ore, and don't be afraid to step outside: the slimes and boars of the basin are as gentle as the game gets.

The real decision in Wanderer's Rest is when to leave it. The road east is clearly marked and the first milestone comes quickly; once your first set of gear is on and your pack has a few healing pickups in it, walk east and let Thornwald teach you the rest.

Getting here

Wanderer's Rest sits at the very start of the Long Road, with Thornwald beyond its far border. Teleport scrolls (sold at Wanderer's Rest, 1,000 coins) can return you instantly to any town you have already discovered, which makes the first walk through a region the only slow one.
