Daily Bounty Boards: The Road Puts You to Work

Wanderer has always had somewhere to go. What it did not have was anyone asking you to go there. As of today it does: eighteen towns and waystations now carry a working notice board, and each one posts a fresh job every day.

How a bounty works

Walk up to a board and tap it. You get one job — the board's job for today — and taking it is the whole ceremony. No dialogue tree, no accept-and-confirm. The job goes into your quest tracker, the arrow points where it needs pointing, and you get on with it.

Jobs come in four shapes:

  • Cull — kill a number of the things that live around here.
  • Timber — bring in logs.
  • Ore — bring in ore.
  • Delivery — carry logs to the board itself.

When you finish, tap the board again to claim. Gold and experience land on the spot.

Every board is local

A board in a mining camp does not ask you to fetch mushrooms. Each of the eighteen boards draws from one of nine regional job packs — green country, forest, mining, swamp, frost, war camp, crossing, ruins, frontier — and the boards inside a region are offset from one another, so two neighbouring towns are never posting the same notice on the same day.

That is the point of the whole system, really. The road is long and the towns along it have started to look like places rather than shops with roofs. A board that asks for wolf pelts outside a frost pass and pit-props outside a mine is another quiet way of saying where you are.

One at a time — but the road is open

You can carry one bounty at a time. Walk up to a second board while you're holding one and it will tell you as much, politely.

But once you've claimed, another town's board is fair game the same day. That's deliberate: taking a bounty at Hollowbrook, finishing it, and then walking east to Stonewatch to take theirs is exactly the shape of play this game is built around. A day of bounties is a day of travel.

Two small pieces of fairness

Trivial prey doesn't count. A cull bounty only counts kills that are at least half your own level. Standing in the starting fields farming rats at level 90 is not a bounty; it's a nap.

Rewards scale with you, but the east can't hand you the world. A board's payout takes the local danger into account, and it also takes you into account — but the local contribution is capped relative to your level, so a mid-level wanderer who walks a very long way east cannot bring home an end-game payday for a morning's work. Far travel is rewarded. It is not a shortcut.

While you were away

Kills you make on the road while your app is closed count towards a cull bounty, the same as everything else that happens in offline travel. Come back to a finished job more often than you'd think.

The rest of the boards

The boards join the interactive spots that arrived earlier in the month — the fountain and the well at Wanderer's Rest, the guestbook, the chapel plaque, the hollow log out on the east road. Same idea, different scale: things in the world that answer when you touch them.

There are eighteen boards live now, from Wanderer's Rest to Last Vigil. Find the one nearest you and see what today's job is. The changelog has the full list of what shipped alongside them. Happy wandering.
