Great Hero's Beard dresses a semi-automated action RPG in a striking 1930s-cartoon art style and a retirement/prestige loop borrowed from idle games, then spends most of its review history arguing with its own players about whether "idle" was ever the right word for it. Three years after launch its publisher pulled it from sale entirely, which makes the argument mostly academic now, but the game itself is still worth picking apart for what it got right and wrong.
