A gorgeous, hand-drawn metroidvania about a paintbrush-wielding artist escaping a decaying inner world built from her declining mental health — whose art, music and premise draw near-universal praise, sitting alongside a majority-of-negative-sample complaint about spongy, repetitive boss fights and platforming precision the movement itself doesn't reliably support.

Blue Backpack, the Cologne studio formerly known for Trüberbrook and Constance, tells a century of German history through the residents of a single Berlin flat, and while its art direction, voice acting and individual vignettes earn real praise, a specific and detailed share of players argue the short runtime, uneven chapter quality and rough interaction design leave the ambitious anthology structure undercooked.
